This is easily the most overlooked element in your business. It is often seen as a once off and something that should be made to last for decades upon decades. In today’s business world, you should expect to update your logo at least every 3-5 years with younger generations reaching the marketplace with new ideas and things that they find attractive, every other day.
With online engagement increasing on a daily basis your logo is often the first thing that sells your business today. This occurs before any e-mail or phone call reaches your company either through your website or online advertising.
So what does your logo need to communicate?
An image, message, tone (serious or casual) and a seal to close the deal being your tagline.
There are a lot of logos out there that are able to communicate their message effectively without a tagline but in our experience this is achieved by long standing brands that have been around for ages. Search the web for "Coca Cola logo history" and watch how the logo had transitioned over the decades. It’s totally amazing!
Types of logos
There are many different types of logos such as iconic logos, word type logos and combination logos. These split into 3 different levels of complexity, namely:
Flat Logos (such as Vectors e.g. An outline or solid colour of a feather with no detail of each strand that makes up the feather)
Illustrated Logos (These are partially to very detailed logos. e.g. Drawing a feather as part of the logo with strands visible)
3D Logos (Logos with more depth, technical detail which may include or exclude finer detailing and generally appear to be “ popping out” of the page)
Rough Idea on Production Time for Logos
- Flat Logo > 2-3 Days
- Illustrated Logo > 3-5 Days
- 3D Logo > 3-7 Days
As you see, these time frames can overlap and it greatly depends on a few things:
A brief; Feedback from client; Complexity level of the logo.
Process for logos
We will ask you for a brief on what you require in a short questionnaire. This helps us reduce diluted time when we know what you require and greatly aids in streamlining the process. At this stage, you are very welcome to forward images of what you would like your logo to look like if you have seen something that already interests you. Then we require a 50% deposit to secure one of our designers for creating your logo, with the balance due on completion of the project, prior to delivery of the final files. Once we have received this from you, we will do industry research (to avoid the stereotype logo), learn about your business and then start designing your concepts.
Once you choose your concept, you will have 3 revision rounds(requests) available to make the necessary changes to your logo. To identify the revisions rounds, 1 e-mail with requests in it will be counted as 1 revision and the second e-mail with requests in it will be counted as revision 2 and so forth. Once the revision limit is reached, we will advise/quote you on additional changes. This process helps protect you as our client and us as your design team against prolonging projects.
Once the logo is finalised (signed off) and final payment is received, we will release the files to a medium of your choice(Uploaded to a share platform such as DropBox or WeTransfer or e-mailed to you if you prefer). Your final logo files will include:
- JPG file for web and e-mail usage
- PNG file for web and e-mail usage
- PDF file for print usage
- AI or PSD files - These are the logo construction files
You may request a silhouette of the logo at no additional charge if the silhouette does not require a breakdown of more than 1 colour.
